 Under Secretary of the Army Joseph W. Westphal, left, applauds Shinyei “Rocky” Matayoshi, for his extraordinary heroism in action, which led to him being awarded the Distinguished Service Cross in the Hall of Heroes at the Pentagon on June 7, 2011. Technical Sergeant Matayoshi was the platoon sergeant in Company G, 2nd Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team during World War II.

The largest amphibious invasion force in history landed in Normandy, France 67 years ago today.  160,000 Allied troops, more than 5,000 ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion.The cost was high, with more than 9,000 Allied Soldiers killed or wounded.
